General Position Summary:
As a Catering Banquet Server your main objective is serving food and beverages to guests at private dining events. Responsible for providing excellent service to members, clients, and guests in a courteous, timely, efficient, and customized manner in accordance with Banquet Event Orders (BEO). This includes set-up and take down of food and beverage stations (alcohol and non-alcohol) and guest tables. Expected to respond to and relay guest and client needs. Continually maintain, improve, and exceed all standards of the MAC, service, member and guest satisfaction, and staff development. Responsible for executing the MAC catering service standards.
Essential Job Functions/Major Responsibilities:
  • Ensures exceptional service of all catering functions.
  • Approaches all encounters with members, guests, and colleagues in a friendly, calm, professional, service-oriented manner. Maintains a positive and upbeat demeanor. Learns names of colleagues, members, clients, and guests to individualize interactions with them.
  • Reports to work on time, properly groomed, and in proper uniform.
  • Set-up food and beverage stations, guest tables, and other event related areas before guest arrival.
  • Serves food & beverage to guests.
  • Review BEO and seek clarification as needed. Recommend improvements based on experience and requests of client.
  • Monitors guest needs upon arrival and throughout banquet or event.
  • Remains alert and aware of complaints and/or unsatisfied guests and communicates with Banquet Captain or Catering Manager to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Takes food orders and relays orders to kitchens so they can be filled.
  • Monitor food distribution, ensuring that meals are delivered to the correct recipients and that guidelines, such as those for special diets, are followed.
  • Monitor food preparation or serving techniques to ensure that proper procedures are followed.
  • Removes dishes from tables after guest have completed their meal.
  • Load trays with accessories such as eating utensils, napkins, or condiments.
  • Carry food, silverware, or linen on trays or carts.
  • Remove trays and stack dishes for return to kitchen after meals are finished.
  • Stock service stations with items needed to execute event.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of service areas, all equipment and supplies are promptly returned to their proper locations after each event and that all storage areas are clean and organized after every shift.
  • Record amounts and types of special food or beverage items served to customers.
  • Working knowledge of bar service.
  • Complies with all Club safety policies and procedures demonstrating safe work practices. Identifies and reports unsafe or hazardous work conditions. Reports all workplace injuries and illnesses to supervisor.
  • Accepts responsibility and leads by example, particularly as related to SHINE, service standards, consistency, communication, demeanor, appearance, punctuality, and professionalism.
  • Promotes the MAC code of conduct in club activities and demonstrates the importance of providing quality service to members.
Secondary Functions:
  • Prepares food when necessary.
  • Becomes familiar with general knowledge of club to answer questions from guests.
  • General knowledge of safety information.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Participates in all club-related training classes.
Job Scope:
At the MAC, specific job requirements vary day-to-day, but the essential job functions hold true no matter the particulars of your scheduled event. Employees may be assigned to several events at one time or working alone on a smaller event. This job works under general supervision and in accordance with BEO's and safe food and beverage handling procedures. Questions, recommendations, or deviations from the BEO's are typically reviewed with the Banquet Captain prior to performance. Duties are performed with specific directions given and work is checked or verified visually on a frequent basis by management. Decisions are made within specific operational instructions and departmental guidelines. You are expected to follow established practices and procedures. Errors in judgment could affect the smooth and efficient operation of the department.
Interpersonal Contacts:
Many contacts are made with others both inside and outside the organization. This job has frequent contact with employees from different departments of the club for the purpose of exchanging information and occasionally needs to gather additional information for assessment and guidance related to work. Internal contacts frequently include other departments such as Sales, Kitchen, Restaurants, Event Setup, Athletics, Maintenance, IT, Housekeeping, Front Desk, and the Managers on Duty. External contacts include members, guests, clients, and contractors. Interactions tend to focus on information exchange, receiving direction, or receiving training. Primary interaction with contacts will be via Microsoft Teams, or face-to-face.
Specific Job Skills:

  • This job is required to assess information outlined in standardized formats and determines the means, methods, and timing needed to accomplish the outlined work.
  • Excellent customer service and decision-making skills including the ability to work effectively with parents and juniors.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members and staff.
  • Essential job functions require considerable long periods of standing and walking as well as frequent reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, carrying, lifting, and moving objects 50 pounds or more.
  • Use of kitchen equipment (dishwasher, hot box, silver polisher, knives, etc.) is also required.
  • Frequent use of carts and rolling racks is also required.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions.
Education and/or Experience:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent highly preferred
  2. Working knowledge of food and beverage service and operations is required.
  3. Prior experience in private dining or banquets.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
  5. Ability to work well with a large group of people in a fast-paced, high-stress work environment.
  6. Must possess a valid Oregon Food Handlers Card and OLCC Service Permit.
  7. Ability to perform essential job functions.

  • The hours of this job are scheduled in advance and based on the needs of client and guest requests.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
